Our ample solar and wind energy resources also support the deployment of renewable energy technologies across the country.\nOur geological systems supply the raw materials \u2014 such as several of the critical minerals and strategic materials \u2014 that are needed to develop the infrastructure and manufacture the batteries and technologies that will support the energy transition. New and emerging opportunities have been identified for energy storage for energy produced from renewable sources, such as through manufacturing  hydrogen, hydrogen storage in underground salt caverns, and compressed air energy storage.\nAustralia is recognised for having a large potential to geologically store carbon dioxide. Carbon capture and storage technology can support industries that find it difficult to abate their emissions, including efforts to remove carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere through use of direct air capture technology. \nUnderstanding the prospectivity for these resources and the current and emerging energy storage technologies will help to accelerate Australia's journey to a net-zero economy. \nAs Australia\u2019s national public sector geoscience organisation, Geoscience Australia continues to undertake national and regional research and data acquisition, to provide precompetitive data that underpins decision-making by governments and industry and attracts future investment.", "num_resources": 1, "num_tags": 9, "organization": {"id": "91f054ec-d0c3-4d42-a89a-5daa2c7a6818", "name": "geoscience-australia-data", "title": "Geoscience Australia Data", "type": "organization", "description": "Harvester for Geoscience Australia Data", "image_url": "", "created": "2025-06-23T12:29:08.024111", "is_organization": true, "approval_status": "approved", "state": "active"}, "original_harvest_source": {"site_url": "https://ecat.ga.gov.au", "href": "https://ecat.ga.gov.au/geonetwork/srv/eng/csw/dataset/geoscience-for-australias-transition-to-net-zero", "title": "Geoscience Australia"}, "owner_org": "91f054ec-d0c3-4d42-a89a-5daa2c7a6818", "private": false, "promotion_level": "0", "spatial": "{\"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [[[112.92, -54.75], [159.11, -54.75], [159.11, -9.2402], [112.92, -9.2402], [112.92, -54.75]]]}", "spatial_coverage": "{\"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [[[112.92, -54.75], [159.11, -54.75], [159.11, -9.2402], [112.92, -9.2402], [112.92, -54.75]]]}", "state": "active", "temporal_coverage_from": "2024-07-15 00:02:31", "title": "Geoscience for Australia's transition to net zero", "type": "dataset", "unpublished": false, "url": null, "version": null, "extras": [{"key": "harvest_object_id", "value": "690dbb15-58de-459e-bb5b-57238b8a4814"}, {"key": "harvest_source_id", "value": "00080910-39e7-408f-882c-e6e1eb6baadb"}, {"key": "harvest_source_title", "value": "Geoscience Australia"}], "resources": [{"cache_last_updated": null, "cache_url": null, "created": "2025-10-16T14:38:30.871760", "datastore_active": false, "datastore_contains_all_records_of_source_file": false, "description": "Download Handout (pdf) [2.5 MB]", "format": "PDF", "hash": "", "id": "78824955-aab3-4b32-8707-02338e1b8f6b", "last_modified": null, "metadata_modified": "2025-10-16T14:38:30.858947", "mimetype": null, "mimetype_inner": null, "name": "Download Handout (pdf) [2.5 MB]", "package_id": "6bdc2ffc-2885-46e9-9cce-18ed34f63ef6", "position": 0, "resource_locator_function": "", "resource_locator_protocol": "WWW:LINK-1.0-http--link", "resource_type": null, "size": null, "state": "active", "url": "https://d28rz98at9flks.cloudfront.net/149526/149526_00_0.pdf", "url_type": null, "zip_extract": false}], "tags": [{"display_name": "Carbon Capture and Storage", "id": "bc816954-0453-49ac-aaef-4e4a9a6763c6", "name": "Carbon Capture and Storage", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Geoscience Australia", "id": "376b8316-c098-46e9-a353-c90a243fb65e", "name": "Geoscience Australia", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Published_External", "id": "5178775c-8044-4b7f-881f-5428a4e2d925", "name": "Published_External", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Resource geoscience", "id": "61eaa7d5-a1ca-4e5a-a986-2e76a2a1e5d8", "name": "Resource geoscience", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "energy", "id": "37c6e5a5-2036-44bd-a4d0-6820265cf814", "name": "energy", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "energy resources", "id": "42fed5a0-7055-4860-ba9a-1daf3a6d73a9", "name": "energy resources", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "geoscience australia", "id": "43d5468a-46b5-4161-93f0-2ce87776ec44", "name": "geoscience australia", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "hydrogen", "id": "e5b33365-e5a0-4e96-a810-8375a4f83629", "name": "hydrogen", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "net zero", "id": "c794301d-ad23-4d20-a680-406bfa43e16c", "name": "net zero", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}], "groups": [], "relationships_as_subject": [], "relationships_as_object": []}}
