Many variants of the geometrical configuration of stations have been used with the object of maximising potential resolution of the direction of arrival of incoming wavefronts.\nA versatile class of array configurations, with good resolution properties, can be constructed with multiple spiral arms.  The array response is comparable to the samenumber of full circles but with far fewer stations, and robust to minor position changes in emplacement.\nThe desirable properties of the spiral arm arrays are illustrated for a permanent array in the Precambrian Pilbara craton in northwestern Australia, and a temporary array on ancient sediments in southern Queensland, Australia.\nIn each case the practical array response is very good and matches the theoretical expectations.\nThe spiral arm configuration allows the deployment of relatively large aperture arrays with a limited number of stations, which is advantageous in a broad range of seismic applications including near-surface characterisation.", "num_resources": 2, "num_tags": 3, "organization": {"id": "91f054ec-d0c3-4d42-a89a-5daa2c7a6818", "name": "geoscience-australia-data", "title": "Geoscience Australia Data", "type": "organization", "description": "Harvester for Geoscience Australia Data", "image_url": "", "created": "2025-06-23T12:29:08.024111", "is_organization": true, "approval_status": "approved", "state": "active"}, "original_harvest_source": {"site_url": "https://ecat.ga.gov.au", "href": "https://ecat.ga.gov.au/geonetwork/srv/eng/csw/dataset/spiral-arm-seismic-arrays", "title": "Geoscience Australia"}, "owner_org": "91f054ec-d0c3-4d42-a89a-5daa2c7a6818", "private": false, "promotion_level": "0", "spatial": "Australia", "state": "active", "temporal_coverage_from": "2025-06-26 01:53:15.069+00", "title": "Spiral Arm Seismic Arrays", "type": "dataset", "unpublished": false, "url": null, "version": null, "extras": [{"key": "harvest_object_id", "value": "5b33baab-92a7-4367-8d14-25b2805cf350"}, {"key": "harvest_source_id", "value": "00080910-39e7-408f-882c-e6e1eb6baadb"}, {"key": "harvest_source_title", "value": "Geoscience Australia"}], "resources": [{"cache_last_updated": null, "cache_url": null, "created": "2025-10-17T02:14:54.798461", "datastore_active": false, "datastore_contains_all_records_of_source_file": false, "description": "Link to Publication", "format": "HTML", "hash": "", "id": "aa4c9f73-b11a-4e27-8901-0f825b536f67", "last_modified": null, "metadata_modified": "2025-10-17T02:14:54.791586", "mimetype": null, "mimetype_inner": null, "name": "Link to Publication", "package_id": "cfc9e73e-8a50-4063-aa97-5ed3bce50faa", "position": 0, "resource_locator_function": "information", "resource_locator_protocol": "", "resource_type": null, "size": null, "state": "active", "url": "https://doi.org/10.1785/0120140354", "url_type": null, "zip_extract": false}, {"cache_last_updated": null, "cache_url": null, "created": "2025-10-17T02:14:54.798465", "datastore_active": false, "datastore_contains_all_records_of_source_file": false, "description": "", "format": "HTML", "hash": "", "id": "c31012eb-0317-4555-9b86-e8806c4628c6", "last_modified": null, "metadata_modified": "2025-10-17T02:14:54.791768", "mimetype": null, "mimetype_inner": null, "name": "Unnamed resource", "package_id": "cfc9e73e-8a50-4063-aa97-5ed3bce50faa", "position": 1, "resource_locator_function": "", "resource_locator_protocol": "", "resource_type": null, "size": null, "state": "active", "url": "http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/Latestproducts/1297.0Main%20Features32008?opendocument&tabname=Summary&prodno=1297.0&issue=2008&num=&view=", "url_type": null, "zip_extract": false}], "tags": [{"display_name": "Earth Sciences", "id": "40d58e59-cdeb-4021-9e5a-aae60edebdf5", "name": "Earth Sciences", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "External Publication", "id": "2ef95c3e-4342-4e16-af22-7360303a3b7b", "name": "External Publication", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Published_External", "id": "5178775c-8044-4b7f-881f-5428a4e2d925", "name": "Published_External", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}], "groups": [], "relationships_as_subject": [], "relationships_as_object": []}}
