The Modified Monash Model (MMM) is a system used in Australia to classify locations by remoteness and population size, ranging from MM 1 (major cities) to MM 7 (very remote areas). It is designed to support health workforce planning, especially for rural and remote communities. MMM is based on the Australian Statistical Geography Standard – Remoteness Areas (ASGS-RA) and is updated after each national Census.

Statistical Area Level 1 (SA1) units are the smallest geographic areas in the ASGS, built from Mesh Blocks and used for detailed Census data. There are over 61,000 SA1s across Australia, including special codes for people without a fixed address.

The file ASGS SA1 2021 - MMM 2023 provides a mapping between SA1 codes (2021 boundaries) and their corresponding MMM 2023 classification, allowing users to identify the remoteness category for each SA1 area in Australia.
