MF seeks to measure total inputs of the above classes of materials required to underpin a nation’s consumption. Unlike domestic material consumption (DMC), it is a consumption based rather than territorial measure (see notes) in. It is calculated as the total of those materials extracted directly from the environment (domestic extraction - DE), plus the total raw material equivalent of goods imported (RMEIM), less the raw material equivalent of goods imported (RMEEX).
