Pumicestone

This water quality buoy collects physicochemical and water velocity readings.. Monitoring equipment is housed within a yellow YSI-DB600 WQ Buoy, anchored within viewing distance of the Bulcock Beach Boardwalk, Caloundra.

Water quality measurements are recorded using a YSI-EXO multiparameter sonde suspended 1/2 a meter below the water surface and water velocity is recorded using an Aanderaa ZPulse Doppler Current Sensor (DCS). These readings are recorded to a digital logger with integrated modem and uploaded to a cloud-based webpage.

Water depth varies in this tidal location from approximately 3 to 5-meters.

Water Parameters Reported:
Record number, Date, Time, Temperature (oC), Specific Conductance (mS/cm2), Salinity (ppt), pH, Chlorophyll (ug/L), Dissolved Oxygen (%Saturation), Dissolved Oxygen (mg/L), Turbidity (NTU), Average Water Speed (cm/s), and Data Quality Codes.

Data Quality:
The Department of Environment and Science (DES) perform maintenance on this WQ Buoy once per month. Maintenance is performed on this device with the aim of preventing data errors and omissions. Please understand that raw data values are reported to this web portal and have not been modified or corrected. DES may withhold data from this open data portal until such time our water quality scientists have reviewed the data, however some values (<5%) may be inaccurate and affected at times by biofouling and or other environmental factors like small animals moving around the optic sensors.
