The metadata was not provided by the data supplier and has been compiled by the programme based on known details.\n\n\n\nThe dataset consists of two shapefiles provided by WaterNSW relating to Special areas within the South Sydney Basin\n\n\n\nSpecialAreas_gcsgda94.shp : This spatial dataset is the area of land identified as Special or Controlled Areas in the Sydney Water Catchment Management Act 1998. Special Areas protect water quality by providing buffer zones of pristine bushland around dams and immediate catchment areas. The Special Areas cover about 3700 square kilometres of bushland. The Special Areas are jointly managed by WaterNSW and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.\n\n\n\nSydneyDeclaredCatchment_gcsgda94.shp: This spatial dataset is the area of land identified as the Sydney drinking water catchment in the State Environmental Planning Policy (Sydney Drinking Water Catchment) 2011. It was published on 21 January 2011 and commenced 1 March 2011. The SEPP maintains the existing boundary of the hydrological catchments under the DWREP.\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nSpecial Areas: defined by Section 44 of the Act, as: (1) The Governor may, on the recommendation of the Minister, by order published in the Gazette, declare an area of land specified in the order to be a special area. (2) The Minister may not recommend the making of such an order unless the Minister certifies that the Minister is satisfied that the making of the order is necessary for either or both of the following purposes: (a) protecting the quality of stored waters, whether intended for use for drinking or other purposes, (b) maintaining the ecological integrity of an area of land to be declared to be a special area in a manner that is consistent with the Authority's objectives. (3) The Minister must cause a copy of an order made under this section, including an order amending an order, to be tabled in each House of Parliament within 14 sitting days of that House after the order has been published in the Gazette. (4) A special area must not be reduced in size, and an order declaring an area of land to be a special area must not be repealed, unless authorised by an Act of Parliament. The linework was digitised using a desktop survey. The survey used digital cadastral lots from Land and Property Information (LPI) dated 2009, and written descriptions of the boundary in Government gazettes. Additional areas in Katoomba and Fitzroy Falls Special Area required field survey techniques.\n\n\n\nDeclared Catchment: Modelled originally by the NSW Department of Lands & Water Conservation.\n\n## **Dataset Citation** \n\nWaterNSW (2015) SSB SW Special Areas v01. There are two separate programs of bioregional assessments.\r\n\r\nThe Bioregional Assessment Program (2012 - 2017) seeks to better understand the potential impacts of coal seam gas and large coal mining developments on water resources and water-related assets. It is one of a number of actions undertaken by the Australian Government to strengthen the science underpinning decision making on coal seam gas and large coal mining developments.\r\n\r\nThe Geological and Bioregional Assessment Program (2017 - 2021) assessed the potential impacts of shale and tight gas development on water and the environment.
