The source dataset is identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement. \n\n\n\nThe dataset consists of shapefiles indicating the location and depth of well markers used to build the geological model for the Hunter subregion. The well markers show significant biological features in the rock formation that represent key indicators to the nature of the formation. Biomarkers are a group of compounds, primarily hydrocarbons, found in oils, rock extracts, recent sediment extracts, and soil extracts. When samples of oil and candidate source rocks are available, biomarkers can be used to make oil-source rock correlations which aid geologists in determining the age, history of and stratigraphy of the formations from drill logs and samples taken from various depths during the exploration phase.\n\n## **Purpose** \n\nFor display on HUN 2.12 geological figures (at the time of this metadata creation figures 002, 004 and 006)\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nLocation data for the well sites and the biomarklers identified in this dataset has been sourced from well completion reports. The dataset has been exported from RMS geological modelling software as a .dat files. These have been converted to a shapefiles for the various wells and depths using ArcGIS.\n\n\n\nThe naming convention refers to the geological age and depth (TVD ss = total vertical depth subsea reported to the Australian Height Datum) of the various formations as follows:\n\n\n\nRegional horizon name \tAge (geological stage)\tNewcastle Coalfield\t Hunter Coalfield\t Western Coalfield\t Central or Southern coalfields \n\n\n\nM600\t Top Anisian\t Top Hawkesbury Sandstone\t Top Hawkesbury Sandstone\t Top Hawkesbury Sandstone\tBase Wianamatta Group\n\nM700\t Top Olenekian\t Base Hawkesbury Sandstone\t Base Hawkesbury Sandstone\t Base Hawkesbury Sandstone\tBase Hawkesbury Sandstone\n\nP000\t Top Changhsingian\t Base Narrabeen Group\t Base Narrabeen Group\t Base Narrabeen Group\t Base Narrabeen Group\n\nP100\t Upper Wuchiapingian\tBase Newcastle Coal Measures\t Base Newcastle Coal Measures Top Watts Sandstone\t Top Bargo Claystone\n\nP500\t Mid Capitanian\t Base Tomago Coal Measures\t Base Wittingham Coal Measures Base Illawarra Coal Measures\tBase Illawarra Coal Measures\n\nP550\t Top Wordian\t Base Mulbring Siltstone\t Base Mulbring Siltstone\t Base Berry Siltstone\t Base Berry Siltstone\n\nP600\t Mid Roadian\t Base Maitland Group\t Base Maitland Group\t Base Shoalhaven Group\t Base Shoalhaven Group\n\nP700\t Upper Kungurian\t Top Base Greta Coal Measures\t Top Base Greta Coal Measures\t\t\n\nP900\t Base Serpukhovian\t Base Seaham Formation\t Base Seaham Formation\t\t\n\n\n\nwith 'M' referring to Mesozoic and 'P' to Paleozoic\n\n## **Dataset Citation** \n\nBioregional Assessment Programme (2015) HUN Deep Wells Biomarkers v01. There are two separate programs of bioregional assessments.\r\n\r\nThe Bioregional Assessment Program (2012 - 2017) seeks to better understand the potential impacts of coal seam gas and large coal mining developments on water resources and water-related assets. It is one of a number of actions undertaken by the Australian Government to strengthen the science underpinning decision making on coal seam gas and large coal mining developments.\r\n\r\nThe Geological and Bioregional Assessment Program (2017 - 2021) assessed the potential impacts of shale and tight gas development on water and the environment.
