Details about forest consent areas, which are created when a State land lease is approved for conversion to freehold under the Land Act 1994, include a forest consent agreement with the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (now known as the Department of Primary Industries).

The State retains ownership of commercial timber in these areas, with the agreement registered as a profit à prendre on the land title. This agreement outlines the rights and obligations of both the State and the landholder and continues if the land is sold or transferred.

Forest consent areas and agreements are administered under the Forestry Act 1959.
