HUN River Perenniality v01

Abstract

The dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme from the Geofabric Surface Network - V2.1.1 dataset. The source dataset is identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.

This data is a copy of the geofabric network streams with an attribute classifying the streams into a stream flow perenniality class. The classification is based on a decision tree provided by the NSW office of water with a few modification to deal with dead ends in the decision tree and missing source data in the catchments to the south of the Hunter (Macquarie-Tuggerah).

The dataset and code were designed for a particular application in this particular catchment. Use beyond this application or in other catchments requires consideration of the suitability of the technique and the data.

Dataset History

Python code as a jupyter notebook is provided with the dataset which executes the river pereniality decision tree. This describes how the dataset was derived from the source datasets. The decision tree itself is quite simple to implement however the required data exists on 2 slightly different river networks and it would be preferred that the results are presented on the BoM GeoFabric. To achieve this, conflation of the 3 networks is required.
