History

This dataset contains the permanent waterholes and ephemeral wetlands used in the Beetaloo GBA extended region. It uses the polygons from the DEA waterbodies (https://ecat.ga.gov.au/geonetwork/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/132814) with some minor modifications around Newcastle Creek and Lake Woods. Each polygon had the maximum proportion of time inundated of any pixel from WoFS recorded and these were used in the classification. Permanent waterholes had water at least 70% of the time, ephemeral wetlands had water less than 70% of the time. The 70% threshold was adopted from the work of Silcock (2009) in the similarly arid Lake Eyre Basin.
