AIMS Water Quality Chlorophyll and Turbidity Time-series Data

Created 25/06/2017

Updated 11/08/2023

The Reef Plan Marine Monitoring Program (MMP) at AIMS monitors inshore water quality of the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). This includes the deployment of sensors at fixed coral reef sites along the GBR since 2007, with some additional sites added near river mouths since 2015. Continuous in situ measurements of chlorophyll fluorescence and turbidity are performed at these inshore sites using WET Labs ECO FLNTUSB Combination Fluorometer and Turbidity Sensors.

The sensors are deployed for periods of approximately 4 month duration before recovery, when another instrument is deployed in its place. The time series data is uploaded upon recovery. The instruments have calibration checks performed and battery changes in-house, as well as servicing on a regular basis.
