Attitudes to ICT careers and study among 13 to 19 year old Victorians

The study investigated the drivers and barriers to young people's decisions regarding post compulsory ICT study and careers including career influences, future careers and aspirations, understanding and perceptions of ICT, understanding of an ICT career and interest in an ICT career.  The research included qualitative research (focus groups, online discussion forum and depth interviews with the target group) and quantitative research (an online survey) conducted across Melbourne and regional Victoria and included students form both independent and Government schools.  Fieldwork was conducted in July and August 2012. The 2012 research builds on previous research conducted in 2009 and allows for the data to be compared.  The Department has commissioned similar research in 2004, 2007, 2009 and 2012.  Reports from previous years are available on request.
