Created 26/06/2025

Updated 26/06/2025

This layer identifies the location of Australian fur seal haul-out sites and breeding colonies in Victoria's marine waters and adjacent Tasmanian waters. The Australian fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) is also known as the Brown fur seal, Cape fur seal and South African fur seal. The layer is a points coverage with the point location representing approximately the centre of the colony. Sites were identified from published field surveys of seals colonies in the Bass Strait region and from personal communications made by experts in the field.
