The ABARE 2016 plantation statistics data was collated by LGA to give total planted area and residue tonnages. The hardwood data includes a range of eucalypt species however the vast majority of the plantation estate (>90%) is E.globulus or bluegums. LGA’s with <100ha of plantation, which were predominantly in the drier wheat belt have been removed from the dataset which were primarily other Eucalypt species. Some LGA’s will only show plantation area with the key species marked as OTHER. These are plantations of several eucalypt species including E.astringens, E.polybractea, E.loxophleba, E.cladocalyx and S.spicatum. Harvest residue figures are not known for these plantations yet.
