IMOS - ANFOG - Seaglider trial deployment in Western Australia off Rottnest island (February 2009)

Created 07/08/2017

Updated 11/08/2023

The dataset contains biology (e.g. fluorescence and coloured dissolved organic matter), conductivity, dissolved oxygen, salinity, temperature and turbidity data measured by a Seaglider in the region of Rottnest Island, Western Australia.

The Australian National Facility for Ocean Gliders (ANFOG) located at the University of Western Australia (UWA) manages 5 Seagliders to monitor the boundary currents surroundings Australia.

The Seaglider "SG155" was deployed on the 10th of February 2009 west of Rottnest Island, Western Australia. This was the first Seaglider deployment in the southern hemisphere.

This deployment was conducted by ANFOG to trial the functioning of the Seaglider in the Leeuwin Current, data communications, and remote piloting and trimming for optimal flight by scientists at the ANFOG operations centre at UWA.

The variables available in this dataset are: Temperature, salinity, conductivity, depth, coloured dissolved organic matter (CDOM), dissolved oxygen, fluorescence and backscatter coefficient at 660nm.
