Importance of Photosynthetic Symbionts in Sponges

Created 24/06/2025

Updated 24/06/2025

Data was collected on the biogeography and biodiversity of photosynthetic symbionts of marine sponges in Australia. From 2000, sponges from around Australia were sampled using a Diving PAM (pulse-amplitude modulation), molecular analyses and classical taxonomy to quantify the abundance of photosynthetic symbionts in sponges, particularly in temperate Western Australian waters.
