Lower Hunter Grey Headed Flying Fox Forage Habitat Priority Conservation Areas

This spatial layer was created to support the identification of areas important to the Grey-headed Flying-fox in the Lower Hunter to facilitate a review of the Lower Hunter Regional Strategy and Regional Conservation Plan. It does this by prioritising areas of high conservation value foraging habitat for conservation to support impact assessment and identification of priority areas for offsetting. This spatial layer is limited to the Lower Hunter (Port Stephens, Maitland, Cessnock, Lake Macquarie and Newcastle Local Government Areas).

• The GIS mapping data were obtained to inform sustainability planning for the Lower Hunter region, particularly to assist in informing the NSW Government review of the NSW Lower Hunter regional strategy and Lower Hunter regional conservation plan.
• Once this review is complete, the second stage is to undertake a strategic assessment of proposed urban development and related infrastructure corridors. The NSW Government has entered into an agreement with the Commonwealth to conduct a strategic assessment of proposed urban development and related infrastructure corridors.
