The Merchant Vessel Iron Yandi is a platform of the Enhancement of Measurements on Ships of Opportunity (SOOP) facility. The vessel is a bulk carrier (callsign VNVR), 289 m length (beam 45 m, draught - 17.6 m). It carries out regular transects between Australia and South Korea/China. Bulk SST is measured by SBE48 hull contact sensor. The sensor is installed in the engine compartment and its depth is varied from 1 to 10 meters (depending on loading of vessel). SST data (along with meteorological data from ship AWS) are instantaneous, collected every 1 hours. The data are quality controlled by the Bureau of Meteorology. The daily data files are available from eMII shortly after 0000 UTC.
