Review of environmental factors: Queanbeyan Northern route upgrade

Created 25/06/2025

Updated 20/12/2025

Monaro Street, which runs through the Queanbeyan CBD, is currently the main route for heavy vehicle traffic from the coast to Canberra and further inland. Due also to the restricted number of crossings over the Queanbeyan River, most heavy vehicle traffic passes through the CBD. There is increasing concern in the Queanbeyan community about the deteriorating amenity of the CBD caused by the high volume of heavy vehicles passing along Monaro Street. The proposed alternative route for heavy vehicles would connect the east industrial area of Queanbeyan with the west industrial area.
