SATS : Sydney area transportation study : volume 4 : freight transport systems

Created 24/06/2025

Updated 19/12/2025

The major objective of SATS is to determine the transportation needs of the Sydney region through to the year 2000, propose a series of alternatives to meet those needs, evaluate the costs and benefits of each and recommend transportation systems which will effectively serve the Sydney region. The recommended systems must be operational and effective, financially feasible and environmentally sensitive and compatible with the ultimate development of the region. This volume analyses freight movements in the base year 1971 and makes forecasts of similar movements in the target year 2000. Following the analysis of anticipated changes, recommendations have been presented for new freight terminals and systems. These recommendations will for a basis of Government action to improve and expand freight systems in the Sydney region.
