Implementation of improvements to the National Livestock Identification System for sheep and goats: decision Regulation Impact Statement

The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) for Sheep and Goats is Australia's system for tracing sheep and goats. The ability to trace livestock allows Australia to respond quickly to food safety incidents and disease outbreaks. The purpose of this Decision Regulation Impact Statement (Decision RIS) is to recommend a preferred option for improving the NLIS for sheep and goats to meet the National Livestock Traceability Performance Standards.

This Decision RIS identifies the nature of the problem to be solved and explains the rationale for the preferred option. It also assesses the costs and benefits of all the options under consideration. This Decision RIS follows the guidelines of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) in the Best Practice Regulation Guide. It has been approved for release by the Office of Best Practice Regulation.
