Surveys to locate black jewfish (Protonibea diacanthus) aggregations in Darwin Harbour, Northern Territory, using baited remote underwater video stations (BRUVS (TM))

Updated 23/06/2025

A one week pilot survey was conducted along the proposed gas pipeline route within Darwin Harbour, and in search of black jewfish aggregations (Protonibea diacanthus) on a number of shipwrecks and artificial reefs. The tapes have been read, but the water was often turbid - especially before the neap tide in the inner harbour. Only a single jewfish was sighted. This research was undertaken to characterise the fish populations
