Tasmanian Strategic Flood Map (TSFM) Calibration outputs.
These outputs represent the simulated peak flood velocity in metres per second (m.s -1) for various past events from 1969 to 2018. The spatial distribution of flooding varies across the state depending on the distribution of rainfall for each past event.
This data is a composite data set of model outputs from twenty-five (25) separate hydrodynamic models. The data provides coverage for all of Tasmania depending on the individual event and excluding King Island, the Gordon - Franklin basin, Furneaux Islands, and Macquarie Island. Mapping should be interpreted using hydrology and hydrodynamic methodology reports, and relevant catchment level calibration reports on the State Emergency Service Website: https://www.ses.tas.gov.au/floodmaps/tasmanian-flood-mapping-project-reports/
The TSFM calibration events offer a historic view of flooding within the state and is subject to refinement by respective Local Government Authorities or SES as more refined data becomes available. Decisions on the use of the data should be informed by the supporting technical reports and documentation.
