Australia's Graphite Supply Chain

Created 20/04/2026

Updated 20/04/2026

Australia's Graphite Supply Chain is a national snapshot of the graphite sector as of January 2026 including production, resources and exploration.

Graphite is a critical mineral because it is the dominant anode material in lithium‑ion batteries, with additional uses in refractories, lubricants and other industrial applications. Despite Australia’s strong resource position, there are currently no operating graphite mines, however, 2 projects are progressing towards production having published positive definitive feasibility studies (DFS). Global graphite demand is being reshaped by electrification. Clean technologies—including EVs and renewable energy—are the primary drivers of demand.
