We have released a new GDA2020 version of our Foundational Spatial Data Framework (FSDF) datasets which replaces the current GDA94 version. This updated service aligns our spatial data with the national standard, improving accuracy, consistency, and compatibility with modern positioning technologies.

The previous service will remain available during the transition period as GDA94 services are retired, but users are encouraged to move to the new GDA2020 service as soon as practical.

Ancillary Hydro - NSW Water Theme – Point GDA2020 Service

Metadata Portal Metadata Information Content TitleAncillary Hydro Point - NSW Water Theme - GDA2020 ServiceContent TypeHosted Feature LayerDescriptionNSW Ancillary Hydro Point data represents a location that has unique hydrology characteristics or monitors or controls stream flow or manages hydrographical spatial data integrity.Features within an Ancillary Hydro Point class include:

  • Bore - A pit or hole dug or bored into the earth, for the extraction of oil, water and other fluids and gases.
  • Lock - An enclosure in a water body with gates at each end to raise or lower vessels as they pass from one level to another.  Lock data points are positioned within the cadastral parcel in which they are located.
  • Rapids - An area of broken, fast flowing water in a stream, where the slope of the bed increases (but without a prominent break of slope which might result in a waterfall), or where a gently dipping bar or harder rock outcrops. Rapids data points are positioned within the cadastral parcel in which they are located.
  • Spring - The place where water emerges from the ground naturally. Spring data points are positioned within the cadastral parcel in which they are located.
  • Tidal Limit Marker - The location of the upper tidal limit of an estuary, which only locations noted on topographic maps are identified. This point feature dataset is part of the NSW Water Theme. Tidal Limit Marker data points are positioned within the cadastral parcel in which they are located
  • Waterfall - A sudden descent of water over a step or ledge in the bed of a river. Waterfall data points are positioned within the cadastral parcel in which they are located.
  • Dissipation Point - The downstream point at which a watercourse dissipates and becomes indeterminate. Dissipation data points are positioned within the cadastral parcel in which they are located.
  • Regulator - A device to regulate the flow of a watercourse, which includes a floodgate or specialised barrier to control allocation of waste.
  • Barriers - Barrier constructed across a watercourse to control the flow or raise the level of water eg. a dam wall or weir.
  • River Gauge - A fixed device for recording hydrographical attributes. This point feature dataset is part of the Topographic database. River gauge data points are positioned within the cadastral parcel in which they are located.
  • Sink - A location identified as a sink point eg. a point perceived to be of lower elevation than the surrounding land surface.
Water security is one of Australia’s major challenges. Key users of the hydrology data are NSW State and Local Government.Spatial Services continuously updates this theme with information sourced from relevant stakeholders and custodians; by data verification from other internal and external databases; research and through Spatial Services’ regular cycle of updating from aerial imagery and elevation data.Initial Publication Date06/02/2020Data Currency01/01/3000Data Update FrequencyOtherContent SourceData provider filesFile TypeESRI File Geodatabase (*.gdb)Attribution© State of New South Wales (Spatial Services, a business unit of the Department of Customer Service NSW). Therefore, the position of the feature instance will be within 0.5mm at map scale for 90% of the well-defined points. That is, 1:500 = 0.25m, 1:2000 = 1m, 1:4000 = 2m, 1:25000 = 12.5m, 1:50000 = 25m and 1:100000 = 50m. A program to upgrade the spatial location and accuracy of data is ongoing.Spatial Reference System (dataset)GDA94Spatial Reference System (web service)EPSG:7844WGS84 Equivalent ToGDA2020Spatial ExtentFull StateContent LineageFor additional information, please contact us via the Spatial Services Customer HubData ClassificationUnclassifiedData Access PolicyOpenData QualityFor additional information, please contact us via the Spatial Services Customer HubTerms and ConditionsCreative CommonsStandard and SpecificationOpen Geospatial Consortium (OGC) implemented and compatible for consumption by common GIS platforms.
