PrivateHealth.gov.au is an Australian Government initiative, managed by the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman.

To allow for easier comparison of health insurance products, all Australian health insurers are required by law to create a Private Health Information Statement for each of their products. The website provides the PHIS for every health insurance policy available from every registered health insurer.

PrivateHealth.gov.au also provides a wealth of information on private health insurance in Australia, a list of registered health insurers and the ability to find policies and compare what is covered.

Contents of the Zip file

The Zip file contains a suite of xml files that contain data for each for each of the registered health insurers and for every product published on PrivateHealth.gov.au. It also includes an xml schema file and csv files containing a summary of the changes made to the xml files since the previous upload to the data.gov.au site.

Another csv file has been added to the zip as of 01-July-2020 - this includes details of the Private Hospitals with which the various health insurers have agreements. Note that if you just want to see which hospitals have an agreement with your insurer, it may be easier to go to https://www.privatehealth.gov.au/dynamic/agreementhospitals and enter the name of your insurer, ignoring the address field, to search across Australia.

Finally the zip file contains a Readme.txt file. This includes further details about the content and naming conventions used for each of the files in the zip.
