Geoscience Australia is strengthening Australia's growing offshore renewable energy sector by leading two priority projects to map, characterise and standardise seabed information and data collection under the commonwealth government's Renewables Environmental Research Initiative (RERI). The RERI projects will identify key seabed features and habitats in the Bass Strait, and recommend best-practice guidelines for seabed data collection, characterisation and monitoring for potential impacts associated with offshore renewable energy. The project outputs will enable more efficient and streamlined environmental impact assessments, supporting the net zero transition and a sustainable ocean economy.
