Surface-wave Velocity Mapping of the Delamerian Region

Created 09/01/2026

Updated 09/01/2026

To investigate shallow crustal structure across the Delamerian region, this study generates a surface-wave phase velocity map at 1.6 s period. This ambient-noise derived map of surface wave velocity is the shortest period map yet produced for Australia with even data coverage. This map provides velocity values sensitive to the uppermost few kilometres of the crust (~ top 2 km), allowing direct comparison with the distribution of basins and bedrock near the surface.
